Economic Stimulus Plan
worries.
Mattie Carvon, Social Security beneficiary:
We really didn't anticipate all this. We just thought that we were going to get a check.â
Like Mattie, more than 20 million of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who do not file taxes regularly,
will have to file this year in order to get the economic stimulus payment.
Mattie Carvon, social security beneficiary:
âI had not filed since 1980. Every bit of help is important.â
To help, the IRS has started sending information packages that include a set of instructions and the 1040A form. This
has to be completed and sent back to the IRS before Oct. 15.
IRS acting commissioner Linda E. Stiff:
âThe information that we are going to ask them to complete will be very basic, their name, their address, their Social
Security number...â
To qualify, the person must have a valid Social Security number and an income of at least $3,000. The minimum
stimulus payment is $300 for a single person, $600 for a married couple, if they file jointly.
Gabriela Goddard, AARP segunda juventud:
âItâs a very simple form. If they need help. They will have the resources of the volunteer of the IRS or the volunteers
of the AARP tax-aide.â
The economic stimulus payment has whetted the appetite of scammers. Beware of phone calls and e-mails that say
they are from the IRS.
Gabriela Goddard, AARP segunda juventud:
âThe IRS will only send your information though the mail.â
