UNICEF: Venezuela Indigenous Añu - Spanish
En esta región del noroeste de Venezuela habitan los añu, uno de los muchos pueblos indígenas de este país sudamericano. Pese a que el término añu significa "gente del agua", el agua con la que se identifican los añu está hoy muy contaminada, y el resto de su cultura y lenguaje corren grave peligro. Prácticamente ninguno de los 3.500 hombres, mujeres y niños y niñas que componen la comunidad añu domina su lengua ancestral. En colaboración con sus aliados en Venezuela, UNICEF ha otorgado absoluta prioridad a la revitalización de las culturas indígenas del país, como la de los añu. A medida que el movimiento avanza, la ayuda de UNICEF ha hecho posible que los maestros y estudiantes cuenten con libros de texto y otros materiales de enseñanza. Esos recursos, así como el entusiasmo que han demostrado los niños, han servido para motivar a los maestros.
