OnStar introduces two new navigational services
To help solidify their leadership in navigation, OnStar announced the introduction of two
new navigational services to complement and enhance its existing service. The first,
destination download, enables subscribers with screen-based navigation systems to press a
button and connect with an advisor. The advisor finds the location, sends it to the system
and an icon pops up and asks 'do you want to go now?' The driver presses the button, the
route is calculated and they are on their way. The second service, a partnership with
MapQuest.com called OnStar eNav, allows subscribers with a Turn-by-Turn Navigation-capable
vehicle to find and save destinations on their computer and have them sent to their vehicle.
The directions can then be accessed through voice-guided commands with a touch of a button.
In the calendar year 2009, eNav will allow OnStar Destination Download capable vehicles to
download destinations directly to the vehicle's screen-based navigation system.
