Safe Skin
According to the American Cancer Society cases of melanoma in the u.s. have
more then tripled in the last twenty years…making skin cancer the number one cancer
in america…using sun screen and yearly visits to the dermatologist is crucial in keeping
your skin safe. here’s mary norton with the story.
Enjoying a life time of fun in the sun can lead to skin cancer in your 40’s, and 50’s…and
moles can be the first sign of a deadly form of skin cancer…melanoma. even though
melanoma accounts for only 10 percent of all skin cancers, it’s responsible for nearly
80 percent of skin cancer deaths.
When planning a day in the sun, apply sun screen before you head out. make sure to
wear protective clothing such as a hat and long sleeved shirts or use an umbrella for
extra shade. and it’s important to remember that those with darker skin color are just
as susceptible to skin cancer as those with lighter skin tones.
For those over age 45 dermatologist recommend doing a skin check monthly and those
with darker skin tones should check their palms, fingernails and feet carefully.
